62 G.I. JOBS | APRIL 2017 | GIJOBS.COM Age: 35 Military Service: First Lieutenant (O-2), Texas Army National Guard (2013-Present) MOS: Environmental and Engineering Science Officer (72D) Education: Bachelor's degree, biology, University of Texas at San Antonio, 2011 MBA, University of Phoenix, 2013 FIRST LIEUTENANT STEPHANIE A. ENLOE Quality Manager, Optum, part of the UnitedHealth Group family of businesses What do you do? As a quality manager, I lead a team and ensure the accuracy of their work. I handle complex questions and conduct audits to make sure we are meeting regulatory standards. What is your typical day like? My role is very hands-on. I spend a lot of time working directly with my team in meetings, as well as individual status meetings. In addition to closely reviewing their work, I'm connecting with team members each day to see what they are working on and ensuring everyone is on the right track. Why did you choose this career path? My goal was to become credentialed as a physician's assistant (PA), so a direct commission into the military would have created an opportunity to go to PA school with the military's support. I saw the role of environmental science officer as a viable pathway to eventually becoming a PA. However, I like this role so much, I may just stay on this career track instead. What skills learned in the military do you apply to your job today? Communication is a key skill in the military that I apply to my job at Optum. Being able to communicate in front of commanders and other officers has significantly helped me become a leader within Optum. It has helped give me confidence when presenting to the leadership team at Optum.
