64 G.I. JOBS | APRIL 2017 | GIJOBS.COM STAFF SERGEANT BRIDGET TACKETT Instructional Designer, LHI (Logistics Health Incorporated) What do you do? As an instructional designer, I analyze, evaluate and create training content to determine appropriate learning strategies for employees and network providers. In addition, I create performance tools and collaborate with multimedia designers in the development of eLearning modules. Why did you enlist in the military? I was a junior in college when the 9/11 attacks Age: 35 Military Service: Staff Sergeant (E-6), Army Reserve (2002-2014) MOS: Motor Transport Operator (88M), Drill Sergeant, Pre-Mobilization Instructor, Training NCO Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient happened. I really hadn't thought about enlisting in the military beforehand. After the attacks, and learning more about why they happened, I visited a recruiter. I love and value the freedoms I have as an American and I wanted to help protect them and to be part of something bigger than myself. It was the best decision I ever made. Why did you decide to separate? It was a tough decision for me not to reenlist. I chose to separate from the military so I could focus on my family. Best advice for transiঞoning service members? We are part of the less than 1 percent of our population that serves; nothing has prepared us more for our roles in business and in society than the lessons we've learned while serving in the armed forces – lessons of discipline, organization, commitment, integrity. Integrity to me is an essential quality. In order to be a true fit in a company you need to be honest about your prior experiences, even if that includes mistakes that you have learned from.
