There are millions of people in America's retail industry – our country's largest – and many of them aren't behind a counter. They're behind the scenes. But they make retail work. One of four people in the U.S. works in retail, according to the National Retail Federation, and only about half are in sales. The largest group of retail employees – nearly a quarter – are 25-34 years old, with the majority of retail employees – about 70 percent – working full-time. And 62 percent of retail companies offer health care benefits, which is a higher rate than many other industries and on pace with other large industries such as education and health care, at 69 percent. Whether it's the biggest employer in the U.S. – Walmart – or a major player in the convenience field – 7-Eleven – they're looking for leadership. And they look to veterans to provide it.
