26 G.I. JOBS | SEPTEMBER 2017 | GIJOBS.COM Age: 27 Military Service: Staff Sergeant (E-5), Air Force (2008-2014) AFSC: Aerospace Maintenance (2A373) Education: Working on aerospace engineering degree, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, expected graduation 2020 Donnell with T-Mobile USA CEO John Legere (second from right) and other T-Mobile employees. STAFF SERGEANT Why did you decide to separate from the military? I was ready to start a family and wanted to be in one location. The Boise area where I was stationed at the time was the perfect place to make that transition. What worked best in your job search and what didn't work? I learned not to assume I wouldn't qualify for a job just because I didn't meet 100 percent of the qualifications. Sometimes it's more about the other skills you bring to the table, so you should let the hiring manager decide. Also, practicing for interview questions helped me relax and show more of my personality in the meetings. What aributes of a potenāĻžal job were of most value to you? For me, it was the daily work environment. I wanted to work for a company where I was happy to go to work every day, offered career growth potential and that treated their employees well. What do you like most about your job? T-Mobile does an amazing job creating not only an exciting and fun work environment, but also an environment where everyone from the CEO down to my frontline co-workers all feel like family and friends. I also personally really enjoy the daily interaction with T-Mobile customers. DONNELL BAXTER Customer Service Associate Expert, T-Mobile * , Boise, Idaho SUCCESS TELECOM TRANSITION What military- acquired skills do you apply to your job today? The interactions I had with such an array of people in the military taught me that you can't go into every situation the same way. I learned how to adapt to change and be flexible to the environment.
