Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017, known as the Forever GI Bill . August 2017 Veterans account for 49% of college admissions . 1947 GI Bill ends . After 12 years, 7.8 million of the 16 million WWII veterans had participated in an education or training program. 1956 Congressman Gillespie "Sonny" Montgomery revamps GI Bill, known since as the Montgomery GI Bill . 1984 Congress passes the Post-9/11 GI Bill . June 30, 2008 President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944 into law. It is known informally as the GI Bill.
