As a content manager/proposal strategist for Mercer's U.S. Strategic Bid Center, I help manage, maintain and update a database of health-focused records for use in mid to large market proposal responses. What is your favorite part of your day? With the flexibility of being a 100 percent telecommuter, I love avoiding traffic and working completely from home. How many interviews did you do with your current employer? At least eight. How specifically did you relate your military experience to the job you were applying for? In the military and working as a government contractor and civilian, I worked with a lot of hard customers where deadlines couldn't delay and results directly supported mission operations around the world. This level of result-driven dedication would only prove beneficial in a group with a wide variety of customers' needs and deadlines. How long before separaঞon did you begin your job search? I started looking for jobs when I was sure I was going to separate from the Army. I was still in the Army when I signed my acceptance letter with the government contractor. My last day in the Army was on a Friday, I started my new job on Monday. Any funny incidents during your first days on the job? I went to NYC for a week to meet my boss and team members and I had no idea how to dress and was very awkward in heels. LISA M. VAN WORMER Content Manager/Proposal Strategist, Mercer (Marsh & McLennan*) Best advice for transitioning service members? Believe that all those years you sacrificed in the military set you above and beyond others who will never know a similar experience. Get help translating the best of your military career into your resume so others who don't understand can get the full picture of your awesomeness.
