We are in the process of now including personal satisfaction data from veteran students. The data-driven Military Friendly ® survey assessment is available at no cost to thousands of colleges nationwide. Each year, schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than in previous years via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an independent research firm and our Advisory Councils. Survey responses are weighted according to the categories shown at right. Final survey results and ratings are determined by combining an institution's survey scores with the assessment of the institution's ability to meet minimum thresholds for Student Retention, Graduation, Job Placement, Loan Repayment and Loan Default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans. The benchmark is set by the score of the leading institution in each scoring group. Advertising and partner status is not a factor in the selection process. The goal of Military Friendly® Schools is to identify those colleges, universities and trade schools that are truly doing "better for veterans." That is, schools must have implemented best practices and policies to recruit, develop and support student veterans, with the goal of providing them the tools they need to successfully take the next step in their lives: graduation, degree advancement and/or employment. To qualify, schools must first complete the Military Friendly® Schools annual survey. The survey does a few important things: • It verifies that the school's accreditation and status with federal government programs, such as the Yellow Ribbon program and the VA's Principles of Excellence, are in good standing and with no flags against them. • It evaluates whether student veterans feel welcomed and supported enough to stay in school, to graduate from school and to find gainful full-time employment in their chosen job field. Specifically, the survey benchmarks, or compares, schools of the same size and type in areas that impact a veteran's success the most: academics policies, admissions and orientation, culture and commitment, financial aid and loan repayment options, graduation and career outcomes, and military student support and retention.
