Victory Media is an independent, veteran-owned publisher and is not affiliated with or sponsored by the U.S. military. DEAR READERS: I served nearly 34 years in the U.S. military and retired as the 13th Mas- ter Chief Petty Officer of the Navy. I spent my military career caring about the lives of service members and their spouses. In my new civilian role, my mission is no different. I believe with all my heart that each of us is better for our service, and I now work to ensure that education institutions and employers understand that fact. Over the past 15 years the Military Friendly ® program has been rating and recognizing the top institutions for military, veterans and their fami- lies. We take the awarding of this designation seriously. Engaging edu- cational institutions in the dialogue about what is good for veterans and their families is vital. Military Friendly ® is a data-driv- en, algorithmic process. The Military Friendly ® Schools status is based largely on an organizational survey which contains more than a hundred questions and takes an average of 15 to 17 hours to complete. We then pull public data from government databases and factor in feedback from veteran students at the school applying for the honor. The honor cannot be bought; it must be earned. The Military Friendly ® Schools program has become a powerful tool and has created immeasurable op- portunity for our nation's veterans and spouses. We want you to know that we are a group of veterans and military spouses who care deeply about those who serve, and those who have served. We're proud to be a voice in the conversation to determine what is better for veterans. BETTER FOR VETERANS Mike Stevens Chief Operating Officer 13th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (Ret.)
