G.I. JOBS | AUGUST 2018 | GIJOBS.COM 40 40 SPECIALIST Senior Buyer, CarMax * , Renton, Wash. THIS VETERAN FOUND AN AMAZING CAREER IN AUTOMOTIVE What do you do? I manage a team of buyers who appraise and purchase vehicles for CarMax * both at the store and regional wholesale auctions. How did you get your job? One of my instructors at WyoTech recommended CarMax as a great place to learn our craft while not having to worry about buying tools. He also said it would provide access to great benefits. I was directly hired by CarMax from a job fair at WyoTech. Why did you choose this career path? Working on cars with my buddies in high school was always something that I enjoyed doing. I wanted to start a career that allowed me to do what I loved. I joined CarMax as a mechanic then later transitioned into the buyer position then was promoted to senior buyer. What's the coolest thing about your job? I get to look at, test drive, appraise and buy many different styles of cars, while making a living doing it. G.I.
