It was hard for me after 33 years in the Navy, despite reaching the highest rank an enlisted service member can attain. It certainly was hard for the three founders of G.I. Jobs when they left the military in the 1990s. The government had invested years of intensive train- ing to teach them their military jobs, then sent them on their way with a 2½-day workshop that was supposed to teach them how to be civilians again. Their solution? In the fall of 2001 they started a magazine and website that arms service members with tools to help them in their transition. That was nearly 17 years and 200 issues ago! Since then the government's transition program has expanded and improved, and so has G.I. Jobs. The career and education resources we publish parallel and add to the curriculum taught in what today is called Tran- sition GPS. The hundreds of success stories we've published of veter- ans who found rewarding civilian careers have inspired and educated countless service members like you who are ramping up for their own transition. Their stories provide invaluable intel from peers about what pitfalls to avoid and what worked for them. The Military Friendly ® ratings, first published in 2003, help connect you to employers and schools that covet military talent and actively recruit veterans. The magazine is supported by innovative digital resources on GIJobs.com , including a job board filled with tens of thousands of jobs, career and education advice, inspirational success stories, and transition-related news. Our hard-working team of veter- ans and civilians has your back. We take our mission seriously, and we'll continue to innovate ways to help ease your transition and enable you to land that dream career. CELEBRATING 200!
