GIJOBS.COM | SEPTEMBER 2018 | G.I. JOBS 15 DAMON FOGLEY'S GRANDFATHER was a traveling salesman, so entrepreneurship is in his blood. It's not surprising, then, that Fogley owns a franchise business in central Texas. The Iraq veteran works 48 hours a week as a paramedic in Austin while he builds the JDog Junk Removal & Hauling* business he launched in October 2016. *Company is a paid client. In less than two years, Fogley has expanded his business from one territory between San Antonio and Austin to three territories in one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. He has 10 full-time employees and is tracking to post $400,000 in revenue for 2018. His biggest challenge is keeping up with growth. "We went from one truck and trailer a couple years ago to now five trucks and five trailers, along with six roll-off dumpsters," says Fogley, 37. We asked Fogley to share some intel about franchising: how he financed the business, the challenges he's faced, and what advice he has for service members and veterans thinking about becoming their own bosses. His responses have been edited and condensed. GIJOBS.COM | SEPTEMBER 2018 | G.I. JOBS 15
