If you're lucky, you already know the career path you want to follow and will do whatever it takes to get there. That was the case with Tony Cruz, an infantry sergeant who lost part of his right leg in Afghanistan. He always wanted to be a truck driv- er, and he was determined to make that happen after being medically retired in 2014. Less than three years after going to work as a pro- fessional truck driver for McKenzie Tank Lines, he was named Driver of the Year for 2017. You can read his inspiring story on page 12. Maybe your career path will take a more circuitous route, like Damon Fogley's did. He works as a paramedic in Austin, Texas. A hobby, however, inspired the Iraq veteran to launch his own business. Today Fogley owns a JDog Junk Removal * franchise in three central Texas territories. He employs 10 people full time, most of whom are fellow veterans. You can read his story and his advice on page 14. In this issue we also visit post- 9/11 veterans who now work in agriculture and natural resources, as well as in the telecommunica- tions industry. All found rewarding civilian careers by following their passions. If you are feeling overwhelmed by your impending transition, we can help. Visit GIJobs.com , where you'll find thousands of jobs posted by em- ployers looking for veterans, great advice articles related to your career choice and job search, content on how to get the most of your GI Bill, and even entertaining articles about military life. You served your nation, now follow your passion. FOLLOW YOUR PASSION Mike Stevens Publisher 13th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (Ret.)
