I got a job in the computer field, and quickly realized that working in a cubicle was not for me. It's hard going from the USMC as a staff sergeant in charge of a platoon of Marines to being in the civilian world sitting in a cubicle with no responsibilities and being supervised by a young guy with no leadership training. What surprised you about the civilian workforce? How it's not as structured. Promotions and job assignments, for example, are not necessarily based on job performance, experience or merit.
