60 G.I. JOBS | APRIL 2017 | GIJOBS.COM Age: 33 Military Service: Captain (O-3), Army (2006-2016) MOS: Medical Service Corp Officer (70B) Education: Bachelor's degree, organizational leadership, National American University, 2012 CAPTAIN BRANDON HALE Junior Military Officer Associate, Kaiser Permanente What do you do? I am part of the Junior Military Officer (JMO) Program, which is a two-year leadership program designed to provide exposure to all areas of a medical center. I currently manage two departments and multiple projects assigned by the C-suite leadership. Why did you enlist in the military? The main reason I enlisted was after watching my older brother and his fellow Marines interact. I loved the sense of team and camaraderie they had. That level of togetherness is something that is difficult to find outside of the military. How long before separaঞon did you begin your job search? I started researching, planning and preparing about a year ahead. Most organizations prefer someone to be a few months away from separation before conducting interviews. However, there is a lot to learn in the time leading up to that. Organization structures, titles and corresponding levels of responsibility are just a few that can be very different from the military. What's the coolest thing about your job? The level of attention from senior leaders on my development and success in the organization has been more than I ever expected.
