66 G.I. JOBS | APRIL 2017 | GIJOBS.COM Age: 34 Military Service: Petty Officer Second Class (E-5), Navy (2001-2004) Navy Reserve (2005-2011) Rating: Logistics Specialist Education: Bachelor's degree, business administration information systems, University of Colorado – Denver, 2014 PETTY OFFICER SECOND CLASS MURPHY PHANHDONE Senior IT Project Analyst, DaVita HealthCare Partners What do you do? I'm responsible for creating and delivering executive reports of all of IT's active project portfolio to IT executive leadership on a monthly basis. Why did you enlist in the military? I wasn't ready to continue my education and wanted to travel the world. So I decided to join the Navy to gain a trade, opportunities to travel the world and gain my education through the GI Bill. What worked best in your job search? I believe my ability to network while at the university and being an active member of the VFW in Denver helped me in my job search. I was able to reach out to all the contacts I met at school and in the community and asked about job opportunities and people I should meet. Any funny incidents during your first days on the job? There wasn't anything too particularly funny on the first days on the job, but I did think we had to muster each morning and afternoon so my manager knew where I was and what I was doing at all times.
