72 G.I. JOBS | APRIL 2017 | GIJOBS.COM Age: 39 Military Service: Captain (O-3), Army (2000-2004) MOS: Armor Officer (19) Education: Bachelor's degree, telecommunications, Penn State University, 2000 CAPTAIN MICHAEL DEL ROSARIO General Transportation Manager, Walmart What do you do? As a general manager for the Walmart Private Fleet in the Logistics Division, I have responsibility for approximately 180 fleet drivers, 30 mechanics, 25 office associates and 16 managers. Our team delivers general merchandise to 100 Walmart stores in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York, and groceries to approximately 11 states in the Northeast. What worked best in your job search? Prioritize what you want most out of a job: Is it location first? Opportunity to learn/grow and promote? A particular industry that plays to your strengths in skill set? Any funny incidents during your first days on the job? We deal with a lot of numbers and I remember saying "niner", "fife" and "one-zero" enough times I was confusing the office and had to get corrected by my trainer. Best advice for transiāĻžoning service members? Find good mentors. The most natural path is to start by using available networks of veterans to include reaching out to those inside your company who have made the transition successfully. One distinct difference in the corporate world is that you have to take it upon yourself to develop professionally and to find good guidance and advice.
