58 G.I. JOBS | OCTOBER 2017 | GIJOBS.COM SPECIALIST What do you do? I innovate new business technology that drives sales and marketing. Did you use social media in your job search? I utilized LinkedIn to job search and connect with people who were in the business fields I wanted to enter. What was the best interview quesঞon you faced? The interviewer threw me a curveball question and asked what I would do if a fellow colleague asked me to complete an assignment for them. I said that I would respond politely by saying that, "I would love to help, but I am currently working on an assignment my manager gave me. Why don't you hand that to my manager, so that he/she can also assign that to me?" The director was impressed with my response, and I said simply that is the "chain of command." What's the biggest challenge of transiঞoning? I would say that the biggest challenge of transitioning is finding who you are again. In the military, people address you by your rank and last name. Generally, as you climb up in rank, so does the respect you receive from others. But in the civilian world, nobody looks at you by your rank or how many medals you have on your chest. Everything is earned, not given. But you are equipped to handle any challenges life throws your way. Don't underestimate yourself, and what you bring to an organization. You come from a long line of success from the United States Armed Forces. You're now part of a unique and special club, a U.S. veteran. America is such a beautiful country that embraces veterans and there are numerous opportunities out there for you, that if you take the time to look, you can accomplish anything your heart desires. *Company is a paid advertiser in this issue.
