I previously worked for the U.S. Senate as a Director of Veterans Outreach & Special Assistant. Did you use social media in your job search? If so, how? What was most effecঞve? I utilized LinkedIn as a networking and job-searching tool and found it was the most effective way to reach out to my network. What was the best interview quesঞon you faced? What is your greatest weakness? How specifically did you relate your military experience to the job you were applying for? I started with my résumé by translating my work experience, skills and personal qualities from the military to more civilian terms. Tailoring your résumé to the job you are applying for can help bridge the gap between the military and civilian sectors. What makes your job something you'd recommend to a friend who's transiঞoning out of the military? I would recommend my job because Combined Insurance is a Military Friendly ® Company. This begins with creating a LinkedIn profile before your transition and starting to add those in your network with similar interests. Find a mentor who can offer you support, guidance and education around the current job market. Lastly, be patient. Find an employer that fits the values that are important to you and don't become discouraged – use every interview and opportunity as a learning experience.
