8 G.I. JOBS | OCTOBER 2016 | GIJOBS.COM courtney.miller@victorymedia.com TAP/ACAP MANAGERS NEED MAGAZINES? E-MAIL COURTNEY MILLER EVERY ISSUE PUBLISHER'S NOTE Rich McCormack U.S. Navy, 4 years IT USED TO BE THAT a young man or woman who was trying to decide wheth- er to join the Army or go to college had to choose between adventure and edu- cation. With the exception of the ROTC, they were two very different paths. That changed when the Army launched Army University in July 2015. The university puts most of the Army's schools, educa- tion and training programs under one umbrella. It's an effort to help soldiers get recognized for their military training and experience through academic credit and civilian-recognized credentials such as certifications and licenses. Beginning on page 30, we talk to Command Sgt. Maj. David Davenport from the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) about Army U. and what it means to the average sol- dier. The conversation opens the education section. Our education cover- age includes conversations with two student veterans and a visit to a Jesuit university in Colorado that enrolls more than 1,400 service members, veterans and family members. Education is simply a path to a rewarding civilian career, and if you are heading straight to the workforce you'll find 3.5 million reasons to consider a civilian career in manufacturing begin- ning on page 56, including a list of Hot Jobs for Veterans. You'll also find great intel on finance and insurance careers, including conversations with post-9/11 veterans who are passionate about the field. This issue also features a group of post-9/11 veterans who are determined to build a Global War on Terror memorial on the national mall in Washington, D.C. Find out on page 20 what you can do to help the cause. Last but certainly not least, the crazy presidential election race this year com- pelled us to ask each of the three major candidates (yes, there are three) about the four issues that military families want to know about the most. You can find that coverage on page 14. No matter what your post-military plans include, you'll find invaluable re- sources in this issue and on GIJobs.com , where you can take the Transition Readi- ness Quiz or the Civilian Career FITness Quiz to see how prepared you really are. Best of luck, ADVENTURE OR EDUCATION? ARMY U. GIVES YOU BOTH!
